1951 Marx, Official Rex Mars Planet Patrol Machine Gun in Original Box

1951 Marx, Official Rex Mars Planet Patrol Machine Gun in Original Box

Spectacular tin litho and plastic mechanical space machine gun featuring Rex Mars Planet Patrol. Fabulous unused store stock fresh off the shelves of Crown 5¢ and 10¢, Millersburg, PA. Incredible unused toy in pristine mint condition. Comes complete with mesmerizing original box in high grade excellent+ condition.

Fantastic example of the pinnacle level of quality attained by American toy manufacturers during the 1950's. Combination of yellow and red polystyrene frame covered with intricately detailed lithographed tinplate. This is a mechanical gun complete with its original attached key. A few turns and a light squeeze of the metal trigger is all you need to create its signature  RAT-TAT-TAT sound.

Lithoed in red, navy blue, yellow silver, black and white it contains such florid adolescent text as ".45 cal automatic", "density gauge", "X-92", and "Rocket-2". Of course "Official Rex Mars Planet Patrol" appears conspicuously across the left frame. A chrome plated doo-dad spring thing lying across the top of the barrel just stays there and looks good.

The profusely illustrated red, white, and blue box shows a helmeted Rex Mars firing off a few blasts from his space pistol. A flying saucer looms off in the distance. A wide portrait of the gun occupies most of the remaining box panel. Note that the text on the box gun illustration differs from the actual toy.

I've seen this box only one other time and it was incomplete. The condition of this example is remarkable!
